Rentals — Boise, ID
Quick answer: renting a 20ft container typically runs $95–$200 a month and a 40ft $130–$300 a month, plus delivery and pickup. Below: the rates, the rent-vs-buy math, and the Boise dealers to call.
Typical U.S. monthly rates and median published rates from national rental companies, October 2026 research. Month-to-month usually runs 15–25% above 12-month contract rates; delivery and pickup are extra (often $150–$400 each way).
Under ~6 months: rent. A season of jobsite storage or a renovation costs a few hundred dollars in rent, with no resale hassle at the end.
Past ~12 months: buy. A year of 20ft rent ($1,140–$2,400, plus delivery and pickup) roughly equals the delivered price of a used wind & watertight 20ft ($1,400–$3,200) — and with a purchase, you keep the box.
Boise is a deep-inland Treasure Valley market with no seaport and no local intermodal container depot — supply is trucked in from Salt Lake City (about 340 miles), Portland and Seattle-area depots, with smaller local yards holding stock in Boise, Weiser and Ontario, Oregon. That distance makes Boise one of the pricier markets in the country once delivery is added: one Idaho seller noted delivery from Salt Lake City to the Treasure Valley runs about $1,700 to $2,200 on top of the container, with container-only prices around $2,050 for a used 20ft Cargo Worthy and about $2,900 for a 20ft one-trip, while Conexwest listed Boise used 20ft prices at $1,500 to $3,500 before delivery. Local Treasure Valley stock, when available, is usually the way to beat the long haul — always compare DELIVERED quotes.

Delivery in Boise
Most Boise deliveries are tilt-bed drops that need a long, straight, level run — about 80 to 100 ft for a 20ft and about 120 ft for a 40ft, plus 12 to 14 ft of width and 14 to 16 ft of overhead clearance. Set the box on level, firm ground — concrete, asphalt, compacted gravel or blocking under the corners. Treasure Valley specifics matter: high-desert summer heat builds inside a sealed steel box, so ventilation or a light color helps; winter snow and freeze-thaw punish bad door seals; and foothill, farm and rural sites can add long gravel drives, gates and soft ground that a loaded tilt-bed cannot cross when wet — discuss access before ordering. Check City of Boise, Ada or Canyon County and HOA rules before a permanent placement, and confirm the exact spot and door direction before delivery day.
